5/15/2018 8:00:00 AM
- 69 Civic vehicles that previously had front seat back pads replaced are affected in the United States
- One or both of the front seat back pads will be replaced, free of charge
- Issue discovered in replacement part inventory; No customer reports related to this issue
Honda will voluntarily recall 69 model-year 2017 Civic Hatchback vehicles in the United States to replace one or both of the front seat back pads, free of charge. Improperly manufactured seat back pads were supplied to Honda as replacement parts, which were then installed in affected vehicles during past repairs. These pads were manufactured without a required opening on the side to allow proper inflation of the side airbag(s), potentially increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash. In addition, adverse airbag performance does not comply with the requirements of FMVSS No. 214, side impact protection. Honda has received no customer reports related to this issue, which was discovered in replacement part inventory in the United States.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for the free repair. Mailed notification to owners of affected vehicles will occur in early-June 2018. Owners of 2017 Civic Hatchbacks can also determine if their vehicles require repair now by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
