Spotlight on Technology
From automobiles and motorcycles to power equipment and outboard engines, the Honda name is synonymous with a proud legacy of technological innovation and leadership. Honda introduced its first 4-stroke outboard motor, the GB30, in 1964. In 2014, Honda Marine celebrated its 50th anniversary, and the company remains committed to the development of lightweight, fuel-efficient, 4-stroke outboards.
Honda is the world's largest manufacturer of engines for a diverse array of automotive, motorcycle, marine, and power equipment products. This high production volume, coupled with the company's precision manufacturing techniques, has allowed Honda to remain a leader in 4-stroke engine technology.
Honda continually improves its marine engine line by incorporating technologies from its highly advanced automotive and racing heritage. In order to maximize power output and durability, many Honda Marine engines include exclusive technological features found in the company's most popular automobile engines, including the Honda Accord, Fit, Pilot, Odyssey, CR-V, and Civic. Engineers work to ensure every Honda Marine model—ranging from 2.3 to 250 horsepower—sets the standard for fuel efficiency and ease of operation while staying true to the core Honda attributes of durability, quality, reliability and quiet operation.
The unparalleled performance, power, and reliability of Honda Marine's 4-stroke portable outboards and marine engine lineup is attributed to a number of exclusive technological features such as Honda's legendary Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control™ (VTEC™). First debuting in the high-performance Acura NSX sports car, VTEC™ technology has since been integrated into the design of the Honda Marine BF250, BF225, BF150, BF100, and BF90 engines, providing these flagship models an unmatched blend of power, torque, and efficiency at any speed.
VTEC™ works to vary the lift and duration of the intake valve opening to deliver optimal performance at both low and high rpm, resulting in peak performance at all speeds. The technology provides a broad, flat torque curve and smooth power delivery throughout the engine's entire operating range, allowing the operator to enjoy both outstanding performance and impressive fuel efficiency.
Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST®), Dual-Stage Induction, Lean Burn Control™, 3-Way Cooling, and a 4-Front Corrosion Protection System are just a few of the innovative design components that combine to deliver on the Honda Marine promise of outstanding performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability.
Honda Marine also offers an industry-best, 5-year, non-declining factory warranty. The program offers true Honda factory backing in comparison to outsourced, extended service contracts often offered by other manufacturers. Standard on all Honda engines purchased for recreational use, coverage for the True 5 warranty is the same on the last day as it is on the first.
Environmental Responsibility and Sponsorships
Honda Marine believes ultra-low emission levels are essential to the protection of global waterways. In fact, Honda Marine's full line of current production models meets rigorous California Air Resources Board (CARB) 3-Star Ultra-Low Emission standards, ensuring their availability and regulatory compliance in all 50 states. Additionally, the Honda full line of 4-stroke outboards meets current emissions standards put forth by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Honda Marine is a proud and dedicated partner to environmental organizations whose members work and volunteer to protect our planet's natural resources:
