One of the most rugged four-wheel drive vehicles on and off the road today, the 2002 Honda Passport is civilized and refined on the surface and durable and powerful underneath with one of the most powerful and efficient V-6 engines in its class.

Powered by a 3.2-liter, 24-valve, DOHC aluminum-alloy V-6 engine, the Passport delivers 205-horsepower at 5400 rpm and 214 lb.-ft. of torque at 3000 rpm to accelerate quickly and help tackle uphill grades. City/Highway EPA fuel economy for the 2WD is 17/20 for the manual transmission model and 17/21 for the automatic transmission models. 4WD model EPA fuel economy is 17/20 for the manual transmission model and 16/20 for the 4WD models equipped with an automatic transmission.

Two 4WD speeds are available for the Passport: 4H (High) for driving on wet, sandy or snow-covered roads; and 4L (Low) for climbing or descending steep hills or for hard pulling in sand, mud or deep snow. In addition, a limited-slip differential and shift on the fly is standard on all 4WD models. Radiator and fuel tank skid plates are standard on all Passport models and a transfer case skid plate is equipped on 4WD models.

For optimal control and sedan-like response, Passport features variable power-assist rack-and-pinion steering. Passport's reinforced chassis and double wishbone front suspension combined with front and rear stabilizer bars provide excellent stability and handling for on and off-road driving.

Driver and passenger comfort and convenience were top-of-mind in the Passport's interior design. All models include power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, cruise control, UV treated glass for front doors and rear hatch, fade-out map lights, body-colored bumpers, roof rack, cargo area net and cover, tinted glass, adjustable steering column and an audio system with eight speakers.

The Passport is constructed using a body-on-frame method common on trucks and SUVs. Triple-sealed doors with integrated steel beams that resist intrusion during side impacts, front and rear crush zones that dissipate crash energy away from the passenger area and impact-absorbing rear bumpers enhance the contemporary, commanding presence.

The successful EX Luxury Package features an exclusive, custom lower two-tone paint treatment with color-matched body side molding and fender flares. Completing this upscale package is a supple, leather-trimmed interior and a standard in-dash 6-CD changer. Available in both 2WD and 4WD versions, the Passport is offered in three trim levels including LX, EX and the upscale EX-L (luxury package) model, and is manufactured at the SIA Factory in Lafayette, Indiana.
